Alvord Desert Playa by ParchenPhotography

Facebook page for updates Website for full portfolio It's tough to believe a place like the Alvord Desert this actually exists in the Pacific Northwest as it would rival any desert scene to be found. And I sure lucked out on my first night there with this killer sunset. This place is desolate, dry, and so very awesome. Just take a trip down to the wee corner of Oregon and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy! via 500px http://ift.tt/YQVS8U

This is one of a few images I'm pretty stoked about from backpacking around the Northwest this summer: Mount Rainier during a stormy sunset, rising high above passing thunderheads. I shot this with my girlfriend Erin last month. For educational purposes and in the interest of full disclosure, here are the exposures that were needed: one for the sky, one for the land, and two for the lightning strikes (which were necessary as separate exposures at f/4, because the strikes weren't showing up in my base f/16 exposures with all the other light in the scene). If you would like to learn how I achieve the look of my images, you're in luck! I teach my processing workflow and techniques online.
